KAREN A. HAMMER, LL.M.

Karen Hammer is an active leader within the legal community. She currently Chairs the Colorado Bar Association Ethics Hotline, a peer-to-peer support line on ethics issues. She has been Secretary of the CBA Ethics Committee since 2010. Hammer formerly sreved as Secretary of the CBA-Denver Bar Association Professionalism Coordinating Council of judges and lawyers. Hammer was appointed by the Colorado Supreme Court to the Hearing Panel for the Office of Presiding Disciplinary Judge. She serves as co-chair of the Boulder Bar Association's Business Law Section.

Hammer was recently one of four attorneys interviewed for the position of Colorado's Attorney Regulation Counsel. She played a key role in developing the Colorado Supreme Court's first-in-the-nation lawyer self-assessment program developed by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Hammer was one of three people selected to lead the development of the competency portion of the lawyer self-assessment.

Prior to moving to Colorado, Hammer served as the Co-Chair of the District of Columbia Bar Association's Real Estate, Housing, and Land Use Section. She is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar and was a previous appointee to the White House and Congressional Conference on Character Building in Education.

Hammer is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and received an advanced law degree in International and Comparative Law with honors from Georgetown University. At Georgetown, she studied international project finance with senior lawyers from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Hammer has worked for prominent law firms, as well as holding senior legal positions within industry-leading companies. She applies her experience with roughly $2 billion in innovative business transactions and complex financings to business litigation requiring an understanding of how individuals, businesses, and lawyers make decisions. She relies on her knowledge of complex business transactions to identify practical solutions to real world problems.

BARBARA K. BROWN, PH.D.

Dr. Barbara Brown is the Senior Strategy Advisor for Hammer-Law, bringing to the firm her unique cross-functional research and strategic analysis skills from working for and with Fortune 100 companies. Dr. Brown has lived and worked in a variety of cultures around the world, and has travelled extensively to teach and develop curricula for leading executive MBA and other programs for graduate students and senior professionals. She received her Ph.D. from Purdue University's Krannert School of Management, with an emphasis on organizational sciences, research methods, and statistics, developing a keen interest in strategic marketing and human capital strategies.

Dr. Brown has succeeded in a wide variety of industries by providing the ideal marriage of quantitative and qualitative research and strategic analysis, whether for food and beverage manufacturing giant PepsiCo, retail pharmacy chain CVS, Accenture (the world's largest consulting firm), or Colorado's own Sterling-Rice Group (as Director of Research). Dr. Brown's work on human capital was one of the ten-most requested portions of the Accenture internal knowledge base. Her work has ranged from creating a Strategy War College module on multivariate statistical techniques for Accenture to inspiring Frontier Airlines' long-running and immensely popular "talking animals" campaign after her strategic analysis of extensive consumer data revealed that Frontier Airlines should give voice and personality to the animals depicted on its airplanes.

Among her other professional contributions to the firm, Dr. Brown assists Hammer-Law clients in developing and communicating the business case for the positions on which they seek to persuade others. Her understanding of organizational decision-making plays a central role in the strategy of creating agreement and resolving disputes.

COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE in areas outside of the law is a hallmark of Hammer-Law. Hammer and Dr. Brown are each members of the Advisory Council of the Medical Reserve Corps of Boulder County and co-chair the Special Projects Work Group.

Boulder County Public Health awarded them the 2017 Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer of the Year Award. They have spearheaded innovative projects for first-responders, public health workers, and the community relying on evidence-based practices, and have received a variety of competitive grants related thereto.

Their active deployments have included assisting law enforcement and their families immediately following the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood active shooter incident; assisting first responders at fire base camp for a federally-declared wildland fire emergency; and providing disaster prevention services during the full solar eclipse in Casper, Wyoming.
